Training for my earthdog event

What a day it was today!!! This is what we have been waiting for ALL WINTER!!!!! PL1 took us to the dreaded Vet yesterday to have our blood taken for heart worm so we could start those stupid pills. While we were there PL1 weighed me......oh boy.......I gained 2 pounds over the winter!!!!(hey maybe I can join Jackson's club!)Hey cut me a break.. it was a long winter and I had to stay with Arch while he recuperated and he couldn't walk far and I had to be with him....Well PL2 said I might not fit in the earth dog tunnel( I'll fit or know the reason why...) so she thought perhaps I should do a little pre earth dog training......so....of we went..... to our most favorite place in the world....THE ARBORETUM!!!!! They have new maps so we thought you might like to see one....There are two parts to the Arboretum..part one...where we hunt and swim and dig,and part 2(PL2 says its called Peter's Hill but we call it part 2) which is a lovely walk around a lovely park.......

Arch didn't bring the bull horn but here he is....my official trainer.........

These are just beautiful spring pictures from part 2 of the Arboretum(where we went the other day)....

This Sunday is Lilac Sunday(that is in part one) We will be sure to bring you pictures and we are still working on the smell o vision....... So here is my training......First Archie said I should limber up by swimming and trying to catch some guppies..He said it would strengthen my digging legs...Notice him standing by and giving me support.....

Then while we were walking I found this hole(PL2 shudders to think what animal is in there) but they both shouted"Go to ground Aggie!!!)(that is what you say before you go into the REAL tunnel........

Then Archie said I had to limber up all my muscles and as we all know there is nothing like a good roaching to do that...........He was showing me some good moves to use all your muscles(PL2 thinks he looks like a nutcase..)

As every good trainer knows you have to run several miles...so off we went. Now as you all know if PL2 took us off lead we would be in California so Archie said well lets just go in a circle...(when we do this in the house it is called "doing crazy business" We couldn't do it for too long because PL2 is on the other side of the leashes and she kept saying something like I am going to throw up going in a circle like this.......

I heard another "GO TO GROUND AGGIE" so off I went.........

Then Archie said we have to pretend that you have won a ribbon and that all the newspapers are taking pictures of us( he being my trainer off course...)

oh you two are the cutest kiddos we have seen in a long time. you may us smile and chuckle with your adorable videos. we can't say which one we like best, cuz they are all so darned cute, but the 'goin' crazy' one, when you run in a circle around PL1 is absolutely hilarious. all of that running and digging and looking cute is too much for us. we need a nap now. hee hee

woofs.

Woohoo! Looks like you both had a sooperb day. I want to be an Earthdog too coz I have practiced many times chasing after my neighborhood cats & I'm very good at it. Guess what? I saw another squirrel today but mommy didn't allow is to go after it as it was near a busy road & we were walking off-leash up a hill...I know, boohoo!

Hi A&A,
We enjoyed your post so much cause we want to learn all about training for these earth dog trials. It sounds like lots of fun.
Agatha, don't worry about those extra two pounds. They'll just fly off of you.
Thanks for sharing the pictures of the arboretum. It is so beautiful. The trees in Vermont have barely even begun to bud so it was great to see some color.

I see that your training is going very well! I loved your videos - my favorit was the first one with the "guppy" fishing - so cute!

What day is your competition? Has Archie been helping out with your mental preparation for your big day?

Happy (inter)National Stuffie Appreciation day!

Hey A+A,

I am sooo jealous that you have a trial to go to. I shall be in your corner from afar! When you are chasing Mr. Rat, make sure he doesn't give you the slip. GO TO GROUND, AGGIE.

Arch, you are one of best trainers ever, I assume. Good thing you took those training videos. Maybe you should make an infomercial with your training techniques?

Heya guys! Mommy says she used to go the the Arboretum when she was a pup - Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay NY. Her favorite is Lilacs!

And she says when she was a teenager whole bunches of them used to go there and play "Vietnam". They would all be soldiers vs viet cong with sticks as guns. Sounds rather rather doesn't it?
