FIRST BOSTON TOUR OF 2011!!!!!

So every year Boston has something called First Night(Lots of cities followed our lead and have their own First Nights now) There are early fireworks(for the children) and late fireworks( for the grownups) and a GAZILLION things to do(parades, singers, dancer, mime, things to buy and play with,we could go on and on..) So PL1+2 decided to go downtown early before the actual festivities started to see the famous ice sculptures..( of note.. it was 50 degrees out yesterday!!!!)They wanted to come home and have Chinese food because they are old fuddy duds and don't do huge crowds well...) We didn't go because we got up early and went to our Arboretum for an early morning romp in the snow and we were pooped.....

This is the Brattle Book Shop..It has nothing to do with NYE however they can't go anywhere without going to a book store and this is one of their favorites

It has all these neat books outside as well......
People are started to come in to the city early.. There are trillions of people in the city starting around 6pm..... doesn't the State House look pretty?
The Paramount and Opera House....
Only in Boston do you you see bobble head toys of Sam and John Adams and Ben Franklin!!

Archie liked this picture because of all the toilets...that must be a boy joke..
Kids playing in the common

One of the smaller ice sculptures
t

Two kids giving each other a little lip...
Archie loves this guy the balloon man and wants to apprentice with him.....
Here is the Frog Pavillion which is in the Common
And here is what they are doing!!
More Ice Sculptures
People starting to arrive(and it is only2 pm)
Everybody is watching......
Them put together this ice sculpture.OF EGYPTIAN DOGS!!!!!!
PL2 loved this and wants one.. a Dunkin Donuts coffee truck(like there isn't a DD on every corner!!)
Taking a pic of the guy taking a pic!
An ice sculpture we couldn't see
Our wonderful library
News people getting ready
Blowers  and hats ready to be bought

What it really looked like at night!(from the newspaper)

And of course the final fireworks!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

Thanks for taking us on the Boston tour with you, A+A!
Yes, Parental Unit agrees-it's not worth going anywhere without going to a bookstore at some point...

Have a wonderful 2011! We'll look forward to more tours of Boston this year!

Bocci and his PU

P.S. PU is reading John Adams after finishing 1776-she really needs to make a trip to Boston!

Great tour of Boston on "first night." And can you tell me what it is with hoomans and bookstores? Man... I go to lunnon and instead of going to the pub with the guys, I gotta make a pilgrimage to a bookstore that isn't even there anymore? Sheesh. Like we don't have enough books already, right?

What a great idea to have early evening fireworks for the kids.

Hi A+A
Great tour of Boston - the ice sculptures are truly spectacular (although surely they could be improved by judicious sprinkling of golden fluid around the base, if you know what I mean...)
But tell me this, you say you were pooped after just a romp in the snow around the arboretum? What happened to your WFT energies? I mean, I might take a wee rest, (like a microsecond, Gail says) after walking about ten miles, then I'm raring to go all over again.
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year. Momma went to the first ever first night but has not returned. Just too many people. However, the weather was most grand for being out and about, wasn't it? Hope Archie is recovered from the snow plows.

We so want to come to Boston!!! So we appreciate your showing us around on First Night! Mom is always snooping around for bookstores -- we could have a much smaller house if it weren't for all the books we already have!

Have a fun 2011 and remember to include us on your next tours!

Wirey love,

Jake and Just Harry

Dearest Twinnie. Smashing tour. Loved seeing it all again. Wagging I got there before Lacie and her industrial strength blender. Sheese. Did you see the way she gleefully smooshed that amazing egyptian dog ice sculpture into her purple blender Aggs? Closely followed by the balloon guy and a few of them bobble heads. Guess the egyptian dogs didn't date huh?

Happy New Year dearest pals. Eric xxx

The Brattle Book Shop! That brings back memories. I grew up around Boston, and the Brattle was favorite haunt -- along with the old Avenue Victor Hugo... good times.
