Part 2 of our Cambridge adventure

OK,so here is part two of our Cambridge adventure. To get to Harvard Square you can take the "T" or trolley, and it will let you off right smack in the middle of Harvard Square.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! SHE SNUCK THIS IN AGAIN!!!!!!!

On the day we were there all the kids were moving out of their dorms.

This is what the new Cambridge is like, with shi-shi little places to sit outside, and a lot of the stores are the same as all over the USA(the Gap,ect) Once Harvard Square was filled with individually owned stores and they were all very different and all very individual. There are still a few remaining stores left which once gave the Square its individuality and made it fun.......

For example this store!! This store is still a hold out from the 60's and has been here forever!!!

And this one!!!

And even though this little bag was in a bigger store it made PL2 happy to see that the essence of Cambridge was still floating around!!!!!

This is a funky little building on the corner......

This is the Harvard Lampoon Building!! Look closely and you will see that it is a face!!!!!!

Now there used to be a gazillion book stores ( and this was known as the city with the most book stores in the USA)and there still are alot (but not as many)Archie was feeling like he needed a new book to read in his crate before he went to sleep.........I told him I would wait while he picked one out......

WHICH ONE WHICH ONE!!!!!

Oh yes,I see I'll take this one.......The PG Wodehouse "The Indiscretions of Archie" which I was named after.......

This is right in the middle of the Square. This man is a championship chess player and you can try to beat him..... and it is very very hard too!!!He is out there all summer long....

HOW DOES SHE KEEP SLIPPING IN THIS STUFF!!! PL2 loves this clothes store(ARE YOU HAPPY NOW??)

This is the entrance to the JFK park on JFK boulevard next to the the JFK School of Government. It was originally supposed to be the site of the JFK Library but the school thought there would be too much traffic(remember our tour of that last year??)Caroline Kennedy picked out all the plants and trees and picked all of her Dad's sayings and they are all around the park

Archie and I wanted to take a dip in this fountain but it wasn't on yet.You can just about see the Charles River in the background in the next picture....

Here I am contemplating how lovely it is here and trying to read this quote in the next picture....

Here is another place to grab a snack. it is a very very old house....and is the house from the Village Smitty that Longfellow wrote about in his poem "the Village Blacksmith"

Harvard Square from the other side.....

And now it seems what alot of people have been waiting for...the office of Click and Clack!! Now read the window very carefully.......

If you can't see what it says it says

DEWEY

CHEETHAM

& HOWE

Well Archie is going to start his book,PL1 is going to start his book,PL2 is muttering something about how she will never be able to get any clothes from Settebellos if she keeps going to Bartley's and eating like a pig, and I have to go get ready for a shift with Asta's Daddy. Koobie and Lacie and I are all taking turns. Please keep saying and sending all your prayers for them.....And so officially closes our first 2008 summer Boston Tours. If you have any requests please let your tour guides know!!!! Love A+A

A famous Boston Tour!

And so begin our summer tours of our most favorite city(and areas around. ) We got into the car last weekend and were very nervous.Where can we go?we thought, and then we said of course to Cambridge!! Now there is so much to see there that PL1+2 couldn't get everything and PL2 had to divide it into part one and two.Part 1 is alot of historical and part 2 will be to get a flavor of the city.....So sit back and off we go........

Oh for crying out loud PL2 slipped this in....It is in her words THE GREATEST hamberg place in the world. It is very funky and has LOTS of memorabilia from long ago and has THE BEST HAMBERGS,FRENCH FRIES AND ONION RINGS.

OK they threw this in too..This is the Harvard Book Store wherePL1+2 spend HOURS in..........

Oh for crying out loud...whose blog is this? This is the Grolier Poetry Book Store. Besides being a book store of poetry only, the owner used to have dog who ran the store for her and who was there all the time......(PL1 spends a lot of time here)

Get ready, you are going through one of the entrances to the famous Harvard Yard!!!( or to those who do not live in Massachewsitts) Hahvahd Yahd(where you can not pahk your cah because cahs are not allowed)

This is the yard which was inspired by Cambridge University in England in 1630(as the founders came from there)

This is a dorm right in the yard.PL2 says her dorm didn't look like that...

Another dorm. Actually kids were moving out that day Many many famous people in these dorms...Thoreau,Emerson,J.F.K............

Another dorm.......

This is the Widener library named after a Harvard alum who went down on the Titanic. His whole personal library is there. This library has the most UNBELIEVABLE books in the world there and is the largest stack library in the world(I asked to see some but was refused entry.......hurumph...)

They were getting ready for graduation with this tent outside(We don't know when graduation is..)and everyone sits outside..It is lovely.....

Emerson hall named after the famous Ralph Waldo Emerson.......

Administrative offices.....

This is the oldest building. During the revolution american soldiers were quartered there and Harvard College moved to the town of Dover to accomadate them

This is the statue of John Harvard. It is good luck to rub his shoe before finals(see the really shiny foot??)

This is Massachusetts Hall and Presidents Faust's office In1718 troops were quartered here

This is Memorial Hall It has a beautifull memorial to men who fell in the Civil War however only Harvard men and only those who fought who fought for the north !

This is an original pump where the students had to get their water! Can you imagine in the middle of our cold winters!!!!(see the kids moving out?)

....Check out this electric bus!!!!!(outside of the yard)

Leaving through another entrance you can see a bit of the Law School

Now we have left the Yard and thought you might like to see Radcliffe(which used to be the womens part but is now every body)

To get there you must go through the Cambridge Common and there you will see this..a monument to George Washington under a tree and it is where he assumed command of the Continental Army.PL2 tried to get the tree and the monument but as you see didn't.PL1 said it was the same tree...( if you really want to know the truth, part one the history part??Well PL1 provided us with all the historical info.In part 2 which is all the stores and food and stuff??PL2 was the expert there.....)

OK this is enough for part one......Stay tuned for part 2..... Radcliffe, stores, food, abit of what is still left of the old Cambridege from the 60's and indeed Click and Clack's office! Love ,your tour guides A+A at your service

Exploding Bomb Shelter

PL2 walked into the room where my bomb shelter is and said"AGATHA! It looks like your bomb shelter has exploded..you have to clean this place up......)Archie said I AM OUT OF HERE.

SO I thought maybe I should really clean things up and I was thinking about it( and while I was thinking another toy leapt out...)

And I was still thinking about it( and more toys leapt out...)

You guessed it MORE toys came out.......

Then I started to look around the room.....Archies I mean my foxie....

A few more friends under the table......

My skunk in the breezeway.......

Oh that's where my rope ball went.........

And I thought this is too daunting I have way more important things to do........
